Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins. Traditionally people gave up things like eggs, milk and sugar during Lent. Shrove Tuesday was the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast and pancakes are a great way to use these ingredients. What beautiful and patient manners you showed taking turns in helping make the pancakes. You also had impeccable manners eating your pancakes.

After we had all had our pancakes, we burned our Lenten promises to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent is a period of six weeks where we do our best to be more like Jesus by giving up things we enjoy, being kinder to others and sharing what we have with others. The cross on our forehead is a reminder to turn away from sin and back to God.
