Term 3 - Week 2

Kia Orana,

It is Cook Island Language Week! Hope you all had a restful, safe weekend. It has been great to have everyone back at school after the holiday break.

Three Way Learning Conferences:

A reminder that Tuesday, Wednesday this week are our 3-way conferences. Thank you to all of you who have already booked in a time. Please do so by tomorrow if you haven’t. School will finish early on Tuesday at 2PM.

On Friday each child would have received their report and values sheet for you to complete at home. These can be discussed at the conferences. The conferences are also an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s learning with the class teacher.  We recommend children are present at these conferences as the children enjoy sharing their achievements with parents as well as setting new learning goals for the upcoming term.  Please note we have allocated 10minute slots for each interview, if you have more to discuss please let your class teacher know and schedule a meeting for a later date.

Religious Education Forts

This week during our Religious Education studies, we learned Psalm 18:2 which says "The Lord is my rock and fort. He is the one who saves me. My God is my rock." We have some neat actions to go with this psalm too. Psalms are poems and songs written by King David that ask God questions and praise God. One of our activities was to make our own forts out of materials in our classes. We chose who to work with and did a fantastic job.

Term 3 - Week 1

Welcome back to another Term!

We trust you all had a wonderful break even though the weather was not the best.

School Production

Term 3 will be a busy term with our school production happening during week 10.  All Kākano children will have a part in our production “Little Red Rocking Hood” and over the next 8 weeks will learn a dance they will perform with their class.  More information will be sent out about the production later in the term.

Three Way Learning Conferences

Week 2 of this term is our termly Three Way Learning Conferences.  Please see the attached information on how to book.  A paper report will be sent home with your child at the end of this week.

The Three Way Learning Conference is an opportunity for you to discuss your child’s learning with the class teacher.  We recommend children are present at these conferences as the children enjoy sharing their achievements with parents as well as setting new learning goals for the upcoming term.  Please note we have allocated 10minute slots for each interview, if you have more to discuss please let your class teacher know and schedule a meeting for a later date.

Winter Uniform

A reminder that children need to be wearing correct winter uniform.  Please ensure jerseys are named.  We encourage our students to be independent and to manage their own belongings.  You can support your child in this by reminding them to pack their own bags and to place jerseys into bags when they are not wearing them.

Art and Craft

If you have any empty boxes, containers, material, buttons, and/or bottle caps that you no longer use we would love to have them in our class.  Our collage area is looking a bit empty and the children love to create with a variety of materials.

Assembly - it's our turn this week!

Kakano 5 will be running the assembly this week. During the week your child will bring home their speaking part to learn. Please help them to practice their part 5-10x each night. Each class this year, only has one assembly (due to covid restrictions in term 1) so every child will get a chance to speak. They will have a buddy with them learning the same words so they can support each other during assembly. You are most welcome to join us (friends and other family members too) at our assembly - Friday 2:05pm in the school hall.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow,

Mr Macmillan will be having a Principals Lunch on Wednesday for some of our children who have been recognised for their hard work or participation in the classroom. The children attending the lunch will be coming home with an invitation.

R.E. Books

We hope you have enjoyed looking through your childs RE books and seeing what the children have been learning over the last couple of terms. Please can you fill in the whanau page and kindly return the book before the end of the week.

The week ahead:

Monday: Book giveaway 2-2:15

Tuesday:

Wednesday: Principals Lunch 11:45am-12:45pm

Thursday:

Friday: Sausage sizzle and juicies $1.50 each, roller skating club at lunchtime (you need to bring your own roller skates)

Play Provocations - Maths games
This week we have been learning some new maths games. You may have even played these at home. Snakes and Ladders is one we definitely need guidance with but we loved taking turns and getting to go up that ladders. We didn't enjoy the snakes as much except the two on our board that went up instead of down!

Memory 10 was the other game we learned. With a pack of cards, take out the kings and jacks. The queens are zero and the aces are one. The object of the game is to get the most pairs that make 10. We are getting very competitive with this game!

Have a great week
Miss Ryan

Golden Time - Tennis with a twist

We played tennis for golden time with balloons!! What a crazy fun way to play!
